Havasu City sits on the eastern shore of a large reservoir behind
Parker Dam on the Colorado River between Arizona and California. The
dam was built by the United States Bureau of Reclamation between 1934
and 1938 to store water for pumping into two aqueducts. Whitsett
Pumping Plant is located on the lake and lifts the water 291 feet for
the Colorado River Aqueduct. Mark Wilmer Pumping Plant pumps
water into the Central Arizona Project Aqueduct. Gene Pumping Plant is
just south of Parker Dam and gives the water an additional boost of
303 feet. The Colorado River Aqueduct has three more pumping plants
that pump the water an additional 1617 feet; Iron Mountain which pumps
the water 144 feet, Eagle Mountain pumps the water 438 feet and Julian
Hinds pumps an amazing 441 feet, along its trip to Los Angeles.

McCulloch bought the London Bridge for $2,460,000. Before making
its long journey to Lake Havasu in 1971, London Bridge spanned England’s
River Thames. London's bridge was all broken up over the move;
into numbered sequential blocks that had to be reconstructed upon its
arrival. Every October, Lake Havasu City celebrates its arrival
during London Bridge Days, featuring music concerts, High Tea with the
“Queen,” and a parade.
